Pallet wrap is a plastic film that protects and secures products to themselves or to a pallet for transport or storage purposes. As there are a variety of stretch films available, it can be overwhelming when deciding which one will be the most suitable for you.
Choosing the right pallet wrap before wrapping any pallet could assist you in creating time and cost savings further down the track.
Stretch film basics
The two most common types of pallet wrap are cast and blown wrap. Both types of wrap differ slightly in the production process, resulting in different wrap qualities.
Cast pallet wrap has a very clear and glossy finish, which allows numerous scanning technologies to be utilised for identification and documentation purposes during transport or storage.
Comparatively, the clarity of blown pallet wrap is low when it is layered, causing a haze, which limits the effectiveness of scanning technologies. Cast wrap makes minimal noise when used and has slightly more stretch than blown wrap. Blown wrap is noisy to unwind, due to its high tack, and has superior puncture resistance. Blown stretch film will seem tough and highly resistant when wrapping your goods and is usually the preferred choice when wrapping obscure, oddly shaped products.
